About The Play

i miss you: a play about a baby carrot by Juliet Roll is an exceptionally moving, sharply funny, and fiercely original piece of contemporary theater. Intimate, offbeat, and quietly devastating, it handles an untouchable subject with immense empathy, poetic rhythm, and a brilliantly grounded sense of humor.

This absurdist, poignant dark comedy tracks a fractured Jewish family over the course of seven days of mourning following the loss of a toddler. When their rabbi is unexpectedly arrested on Day One, the family is left without spiritual guidance, improvising their own rituals while navigating an escalating domestic crisis: the grieving mother has begun caring for a backyard carrot as her surviving child, forcing her traditional, rule-bound father and distant husband to confront the breaking points of their own grief.

The play embraces surreal and absurd elements to create a beautifully warped exploration of grief where uncertainty and understanding live side by side.  The humor highlights the messy, awkward, and deeply uncoordinated reality of human grieving… grieving people are clumsy.
